Republican gubernatorial candidate stops in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Republican candidate for Mississippi’s Attorney General office stopped in Columbus Thursday.

Andy Taggart said working in the courtroom and for past governors makes him the best candidate.

He wants to attack drugs in the state and use AG lawyers as much as possible.

“I don’t think that we ought to do public policy by litigation, right,” said Taggart. “In our country we do public policy by legislation. We elect legislators and then they decide what the laws of the state are, and we shouldn’t be trying to set public policy in the courtroom. But at the same time, we also can’t let the taxpayers be scammed or defrauded.”

Three candidates will be on the republican primary ticket on August 6.

Current State Treasurer Lynn Fitch and lawmaker Mark Baker will join Taggart.
