Retailers need extra help as Christmas draws closer.

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -Christmas is only a few short weeks, and that means holiday shopping is at its peak.

And for local retailers, some extra help is needed.

“Well as we all know nobody likes to wait in line. I believe that we all work very hard for our money when you got the convenience of Amazon and just retailers everywhere you purposely have to pick where you want to spend it. So having that extra help here to either assist somebody at the same time speed of check out everybody in life is in a hurry,” said general store manager Scott Lancaster.

And it’s not just the stores that get a boost.

“We actually hired 28 for the season the extra holiday help is actually it helps a lot of different ways and we are actually going to be retaining about 2/3 of those associates if they come in, and they do a good job and were able to work with their schedule we keep them on,” said Lancaster.

Anthony Mitchell is one of the hopefuls trying to continue on past Christmas.

“I really enjoyed it so far it’s been challenging days but I’ve pushed through it that’s what I’m here for I’m here to help people try to get them in and out as fast as we can experience and I can’t wait to continue on here,” said Anthony Mitchell.

Understanding each employees situation is important during the holiday season.

“You may have a single mother who has kids that she needs to take care of, and at the same time you’ve got college students who may have day classes and night classes, but we purposely hire full-time and part-time to accommodate each shift, so we have associate who are willing to work in different areas different times different places,” said Lancaster.

Christmas can be a stressful time financially for many.

Getting that extra check can help take a little stress off.

“I wouldn’t say that everybody lives paycheck to paycheck but this time of year. it’s a time of giving and one of the things for us like on Thanksgiving day our company paid 200% the hourly wage to every associate who worked so it helps them financially,” said Lancaster.

Scott Lancaster tells he expects the holiday season continues through the first week of January.
