Riverwalk Extension Officially Open

COLUMBUS, Miss. ( WCBI) — The beautiful weather means it’s a great time to get outdoors, and if you are around Lowndes County, you now have more to explore.

With the cut of a ribbon, The newest extension to the Riverwalk is officially open.

City, county and MDOT officials were at the ceremony to talk about the benefits of the project.

The extension means the Riverwalk now connects to the soccer complex.

It’s an improvement that city leaders hope will continue to increase tourism and insure a better quality of life for citizens.

When you get more people downtown and more people in Columbus and Lowndes County, It just makes everything better for everyone, the shops, hotels and restaurants. So we’re real excited about all of that,” says Nancy Carpenter with Visit Columbus.

Carpenter says this may not be the last extension as the city is always looking at ways to keep improving.
