Video: Salute to Service Awards Banquet Held in Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) — It was night to salute service in the spirit of Dr. King’s birthday.

This the second year the Hands of Aberdeen group has hosted the Salute to Service Dinner. Award winners exemplify excellence and leadership in the community.

Coach Roy Hazzle spent 26 years coaching basketball at Aberdeen High School. His commitment to local youth spans back to 1977. He says he is honored and humbled to be recognized for this honor.

“People in the community made me who I am, helped me stay on the straight and narrow. Just glad to be recognized, and I thank everyone who had a part to play in this,” says the retired coach.

Educator Claire Mattox was also honored for her work in school systems, including her time in Rankin County. She passed away in July of 2014, at the age of 25.
