Saturday Construction Accident Kills Alabama Man

GREENWOOD SPRINGS (WCBI) –  A Sulligent, Alabama man is dead following a construction related accident at a Greenwood Springs residence.  Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley says 65 year old Johnnie Lee Phillips of Halls Road in Sulligent was killed Saturday when a home being renovated fell on him.   Phillips was helping his best friend stabilize and level the recently relocated home when blocks being used to support the structure shifted and pinned Phillips .  Several volunteer fire departments and other first responders were able to use airbags to lift the home but Phillips was unresponsive .  Gurley says the Sulligent man was pronounced dead at the Highway 278 East scene from multiple trauma and internal injuries.  Two others on scene were not injured .  Funeral arrangements are pending at Otts Funeral Home in Sulligent.
