UPDATE : One dead in Lee County shooting

LEE COUNTY (WCBI) – A drive by shooting in Lee County leaves a woman dead, now the search is on for the gunman.

Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green confirms the victim is 66-year-old Annie Walton.

Sheriff Jim Johnson said it all unfolded around three o’clock Friday afternoon at a mobile home on 181 County Road 45 in the Palmetto Community.

Johnson said a car stopped in front of the home, and fired multiple shots inside the residence.

The sheriff said a total of seven people were inside the home during the shooting, they range in ages 70 to three years old.

In all, three people were shot.

One victim was treated at the scene, and another was was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center.

Walton was also transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The suspects in the case fled the area in what is believed to be a gray Nissan Altima.

Right now, investigators are looking for the four suspects responsible for this violent act.

“This is not a situation where this is a stray bullet, or someone was target practicing or hunting and the bullet went into this home,” said Sheriff Johnson. “This home was a direct target and the individuals inside were the purpose of the shooting, there are multiple gunshots fired inside this home.”

Walton’s body is now being sent to Pearl for an autopsy.

This shooting remains under investigation.
