Secret supporters help students

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – A West Point teacher’s adopt-a-student program is still going strong after kicking off at the beginning of the school year.

We first met Crosby Miller in August who had secured secret pals for each student in her second grade class.

Encouragement, prayers, and the occasional gift.

Students in Crosby Miller’s class have all that and more.

And it’s thanks all to some secret friends taking time out of their day to make a difference.

Back in August, 2nd Grade teacher Crosby Miller had no idea what one simple Facebook post could lead too.

Since then she and her students have experienced an outpour of support from the community.

“It has just really taken off since the beginning of the year I just asked for prayers for my students throughout the year and a book for them to have on the first day of school and so much more has come from this than I expected,” said Crosby Miller.

The post asking for people to adopt her students led to all 23 being adopt within six hours.

But what came after was even more amazing.

“I just… blown away. The sponsors, they surprise me every month with something new. I’ll just be going about my normal week, and I’ll get a message about what project are y’all doing this week, what can we bring, and what do you need, what supplies do you need. Friday morning we’re doing gingerbread houses for Christmas, and a sponsor just went by Walmart and picked up everything I needed and dropped it off in the office along with the gift for her kid it’s just amazing,” said Miller.

When Monte Brasfield saw Miller’s post back in August, he knew he had to jump on board.

“It’s been great. I try to do something at least once a week or once every two weeks at least, but I know the kids in his classroom are all being supported and taken care of in the community, and I think that’s one of the most important things. Is that the community is supporting in the classroom and supporting these kids,” said Monte Brasfield.

The sponsors hope their efforts are helping make the kids days just a little brighter.

“It’s kind of, its kind of great because you get a lot of good presents. It’s really fun. I got a watch, I got a squirt gun, I got a lot of books that I really like, and the note says ‘keep up the good work,'” said Ricky Moore.

The students aren’t aware of who their secret friend is, and neither does the friend. Miller plans on hosting a reveal party in May to let everyone meet.
