Shelters prepare to open up ahead of severe storms
WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- More and more of our communities are building storm shelters.
In the wake of recovery from previous storms, many counties have opted for community shelters.
There are several in Winston County.
A number of agencies work together to make the safe gathering place operational and open to the public.
The main goal is to keep everyone safe who wants to take shelter and while they are getting to safety.
“We have a total of nine shelters in Winston County, and it is a process to alert those nine different entities when to open a shelter. The way we announce that to the public is through social media, through calls and through broadcast on our radio systems to let the public know that our shelters are open,” said EMA Director Buddy King.
WCBI also works with EMA Directors to tell our viewers when shelters are opening.
