Shelton Officially Served With Lawsuit
TUPELO (WCBI) – Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton has officially been served with a lawsuit accusing him of slandering a Tupelo attorney.
The city confirms Shelton received a copy of the suit today. The Mayor has personally hired attorney Brad Morris to represent him in the suit filed by Attorney Kenneth Mayfield. Mayfield claims Shelton defamed him in a series of emails saying Mayfield’s primary concern in the Ronnie Shumpert case is to make a profit by causing unrest in the city. Mayfield is a member of the CCPL group which is asking for a series of changes in Tupelo but is not involved in the 35 million dollar lawsuit filed by Shumpert’s family. Shelton adds h any comments about the case would be coming from Morris. WCBI contacted Morris around 4 Tuesday afternoon seeking comment on the case but none has been prepared at this time.
