Shooting reported at Academy Sports in Starkville

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A woman was shot walking out of Academy Sports in Starkville.

Police believed it was an accidental shooting.

The shooting happened about 1:40 Tuesday afternoon.

Starkville Police Department Spokesman Brandon Lovelady confirmed that the gun fired from a vehicle that was in the parking lot.

No other details were released.

WCBI was told there were children inside of the vehicle when the gun went off and at least one pellet from a shotgun blast hit the victim.

She was taken to OCH Regional Medical Center.

The incident remains under investigation.
