Video: Showing Appreciation To First Responders

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- On Tuesday, Starkville residents honored those who are first on the scene to help others.

Volunteer Starkville held its First Responders Appreciation Day to show those men and women that their community is behind them..

Oktibbehea County residents had an opportunity to get to know the first responders that serve their area.

Law enforcement officers says these kinds of events help to build trust and relationships with the citizens they serve.

“I think the importance of meeting first responders is so you can be prepared if something happens, and you know what they are doing everyday while we are relaxing and having fun,” said Kylie Headley, president of the 4-H Clover Dawg Club. “We know what they are going through outside of the box.”

“They get to meet us away from the calls,” said  Master Sgt. Criss Turnipseed, public affairs officer with the MHP.  “We get to see them in a less stressful emergency stressful type of atmosphere. We get to enjoy some music, get some food, get to mingle talk and kind of get to know the community, so it’s a win win for everyone.”
