Shumpert Lawsuit Dismissed

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A Federal Civil Lawsuit filed by Ronnie Shumpert’s family is dismissed by Federal Court today, November 6. Remember back to the officer involved shooting in 2016, that resulted in the death of Shumpert.

Shumpert’s family filed a lawsuit against the city and officer Tyler Cook for wrongful death by use of force.

Court documents stated that claims filed against Officer Cook should be dismissed, stating that no facts proved Cook’s actions were wrong.

The police report from that night states Cook released his K9 commanding him to bite Shumpert.

Shumpert then fought the dog and got into a scuffle with Cook.

During that wrestling match, Cook states that he was hit in the face and head, so hard he began seeing stars and started to black out.

That’s when Cook drew his weapon shooting the Shumpert three to four times, according to the deposition.
