Small plane crashes in front lawn of Oktibbeha County home

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- One person is injured after a small plane crash in Oktibbeha County.

EMA Director Kelly Campanella confirms first responders got a call from air traffic controllers when they lost contact with the plane just before 6 p.m. Wednesday. She tells WCBI a second call came in from the pilot of the plane.

The aircraft crashed near a home on Old Highway 25 near Poor House Road. The aircraft was a single engine Cessna passenger plane

Investigators on scene say there’s nothing hazardous at the scene. They say it appears the plane was out of fuel, and was heading to a nearby airport to refuel prior to the crash.

The pilot was airlifted to a Tupelo hospital to be treated.

The federal aviation administration and National Transportation Safety Board will be on the scene Thursday morning to investigate the crash.

Investigators say he pilot is a Major in the United States Air Force, and did not own the plane.
