SNAP items lost in tornado can be replaced for limited time

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- People affected by the storm who receive SNAP benefits can have items that were lost, replaced.

This would apply to people who, for example, lost food either from the tornado or from the resulting power outages.

SNAP members need to stop by the Department of Human Services to reapply for their SNAP benefits.

They will replace the lost food and help homeowners restock.

Absolutely there are some people that just got their lives back yesterday so if you think about it from Saturday to Thursday they had no power so whatever food they had and refrigeration or deep freezers that food has been lost,” said Director of Community Outreach Glenda Buckhalter.

Anyone needing to reapply for the SNAP benefit program has until 5 p.m. Tuesday. After that, they will not be able to have their food replaced.
