Starkville Academy students investigate mock crime scenes
STURGIS, Miss. (WCBI) – Some local students were able to get some practical experience in the field of forensic science.
Students from the forensics class at Starkville Academy got hands-on training with mock crime scenes at a Sturgis farm on Monday.
The forensic field trip gave them an opportunity to put into practice what they’ve been studying in class.
This year they’ve learned the methods investigators use to gather evidence to help them solve crimes, like murder.
“Well, my group we went out into the woods, right back there, and there were a bunch of burned bones and stuff and so we dug those up and found those and tried to piece together what happened,” said senior Cade Vickers.
Once students get back to the classroom, they will review their evidence and send it off for analysis.
When their investigations are complete, they will present their cases to the class.
