Starkville Aldermen Pump the Brakes on “Pride” Parade

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -Starkville Aldermen put the brakes on a planned parade..

Starkville Pride, a campus organization representing members of the LGBTQ Community,  had applied for a permit for a Pride Parade in Starkville.

The permit was originally on the Board’s Consent Agenda, which is normally passed as a single item, and usually on a unanimous vote.

Aldermen Roy A. Perkins and Ben Carver moved to remove it from the Consent Agenda, and bring it up as a separate item.

The Board heard public comment on the parade with 16 people speaking in favor and only 2 opposed to it.

But in the end, Aldermen voted 4 to 3 to deny the permit.
