Starkville Chancery Judge Qualification

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – On the very first day to qualify for the job of Chancery judge, Youth Court Referee Paula Drungole-Ellis is the first to qualify.

Drungole-Ellis is a practicing attorney for more than 30 years. Appointed by Chancery Judge Dorothy Colom, she serves as the the Referee for Youth Court cases in Oktibbeha County.

Starkville Vice Mayor Roy A. Perkins also has qualified for Chancery Judge. Perkins is the Alderman for Ward Six in Starkville, a position he has held nearly 25 years. Perkins has also been a practicing attorney in Starkville for nearly three decades.

Both candidates are running in District 14, Place 3.

The new judge will replace long-time Chancery Judge Dorothy Colom.

Longtime family attorney Lee Ann Turner has qualified for Place 1 in the 14th District.

Turner served as the clerk for the 14th District Chancery Court judges for several years before entering private practice.

Eugene Barton has also qualified for Place 1. He is the Chickasaw County attorney.

All three Chancery Court judges in the 14th District are retiring this year.
