Starkville Habitat for Humanity opens up new shop

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- For decades a family owned lumber company and hardware store sat on the corner of South Jackson Street in downtown Starkville.

Friday, a store that will help families build their forever home opened in that same spot.

The ReStore is now open for business in the old Vanlandingham Lumber Company building.

ReStore is operated by the Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity.

Builders and homeowners can donate materials to the store. That includes lumber, nails and even furniture.

Those items are then sold to customers in the community.

The move downtown makes the store more accessible.

“Our old location was out in the country. We have very little people that would drop by. Here we are right down. First Baptist has been very generous and let us use this building and we are expecting a whole lot of business here,” said Joel Downy.

Habitat volunteers work in the store. ReStore will be open Fridays and Saturdays.
