Starkville Summer Reading Program wraps up with petting zoo

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – As summer begins to wind down, the Starkville Reading Program decided to end with a bang.

Starkville Public Library provided the funding for all the reading program, including a petting zoo.

The “Tickled Pink Petting” Zoo showcased a variety of animals from a crocodile to a camel.

Director Loraine Walker says this gives children a chance to learn and see different animals from their reading books.

“I thought it’d be really fun to have some exotic animals, to have some hands-on fun with them and just have a big blowout to end the summer on. This is the first time they have gotten to get up close and personal with the animals, to touch them and to really interact with them,” said director Lorraine Walker.

Walker hopes to have another event like this next year.
