Starkville Woman Charged with Extortion
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A Starkville woman is accused to trying to extort money from a former employer in exchange for her silence.
Lowndes County investigators say 33-year-old Amy Oswalt is charged with extortion after she showed up Tuesday morning expecting to get a payoff. Instead, she was met in a parking lot of a Highway 45 business by undercover sheriff’s deputies.
Investigators say she began texting and contacting a former employer in Lowndes County during the weekend demanding what is described as a “large amount” of money or she would file sex-related criminal charges.
Arrangements were made for pay off, leading to Tuesday’s arrest. Her bond is set at $5,000.
