Staying ahead of the storm

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- Spring is here and so is severe weather season. There’s no better time than now to have a severe weather safety plan.

In Monroe County, the EMA director wants people in his county to know where they can go to seek shelter from the storm.

There are several storm shelters throughout the county.

Smithville and Hamilton High School both have shelters for people to take cover when Mother Nature is at her worst.

EMA Director Bunky Boza urges families to sit down together and talk about your plan.

“We want people to maintain a situational awareness prepare kit. This is part of preparedness. Setting a maintain awareness plan when the storm happens, is not the time to respond. Know where to call for information. Do it before storms and one of the best ways to do that is on main the website of different EMA offices,” said Bunky Boza.

With severe coming up Saturday, you want to make sure you have ways to receive weather warnings and have a severe weather plan in place.
