Storm Traps Two People in Eupora

EUPORA, Miss. (WCBI)- Straight line winds in Webster County knocked down trees and damaged power lines.

In Eupora, a tree fell into an apartment building on Adams Avenue.

Two people were inside at the time, they were trapped by the tree.

After the storm, firefighters from Eupora and Walthall raced to the scene.

“At first, rescue efforts were hindered a little bit, we had powerlines down as well. Once Natchez Trace cleared that out, we contacted Walthall Fire Department for mutual assistance. They have a ladder truck. What we did, we went into the other side and extracted two patients outside upper level apartment. Anytime these guys come together, they always do an outstanding job, both my department and their department,” Eupora Fire Chief Mitch Jackson said.

The damage was so significant, fire fighters needed heavy equipment to safely reach the victims.

Firefighters helped three people out of the building after the storm.

Two were trapped beneath the tree while a third had ran in to help after the tree crashed through the roof.

They were all rescued through the second story window.

Two victims were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
