[syndicaster id=’6351956′] MOOREVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — The Mooreville Baseball and Softball Teams are having a great season so far. Both teams are deep into the post season right now and playing their best ball as of yet.

The Mooreville Baseball team just defeated Hatley last weekend in the 2nd round of the high school playoffs and now are getting ready to host tomorrow night in the third round of the playoffs. This team is led by three seniors and the season has been pretty good so far for the Troopers.

“We’ve been doing pretty good this year. Been hitting the ball, been trying to stay on top and stay humble and stay within ourselves,” said Senior Sam Harrington.

“We’ve been hitting the ball decent at times and we’ve been staying in ball games with our pitching. If we can together a few hits and score some runs we feel confident that we can hold the opponents to little to no damage, said Junior Trace Henry.

The baseball team is in the same position this time as they were last year in the third round of the playoffs and fell just short, but fifth year Head Coach Derek Thompson says this time he feels that his team is a lot better.

“I feel like we’re playing better baseball this time of year then we was last year. We’re still not where we need to be. We can get and I hope that we find a couple of days this week to get out on the field and hopefully get to that position, said Head Coach Derek Thompson.

The softball team is having a great season as well. The Lady Troopers are led by two seniors and have won 20 plus games so far this season and it’s been really fun.

“It’s just been great. Just being best around here and being talked about and stuff, but being apart of this team and it’s definitely not one person. It’s definitely a team effort and we’ve definitely seen that this year,” said Senior Kelsey Minga.

“It’s really just been fun. We’ve had a few highs and lows this season, but I really feel like we’re starting to peak again so it’s really good going into this part of the season,” said Senior Addie Hitt.

Head Softball Coach Perry Wilburn has been coaching softball at Mooreville for now twenty seasons and he feels his team is playing well right now, but the key is staying healthy throughout the post season.

“The kids have been playing well. We’ve hit the ball well, and we’ve played good defense and the pitchers have done well. The key to us is staying healthy and just staying focused,” said Head Coach Perry Wilburn.
