Students At A Local Middle School Gear Up To Compete In Lego League Competition

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- Four robotics teams from Starkville’s Armstrong Middle School have advanced to compete in the state championship.

The forty students will be competing in the state’s first Lego League Competition in Pearl this weekend.

On Tuesday, the teams presented their research and designs to their parents and the public at the Greensboro Center.

School leaders said students have been working hard for this big moment and they’re are ready to put what they’ve learned to the test.

“All I do is give them the information. They come up with the ideas, they have to form a team, and they come up with their team norms, what their rules of operations are going to be. They divvy up the work and decide who’s going to do what part of the projects and parts of the robots. They do all the work. All I do is facilitate,” said Penny Rodrigue, who teaches robotics at AMS.

School leaders said the competition also allows Starkville students to get involved in stem programs at a critical age.
