Students Try To Get Back Into The Swing Of Things As New Semester Starts

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- School is back in session at Mississippi State University.

For some students, they’ve been anxiously awaiting the start of the new semester.

“Honestly, I was kind of ready to come back because after being on break for so long I was getting kind of bored,” said Cade Campbell, a freshman at MSU.

However, some students feel the complete opposite.

Trying to get back into the swing of things is actually presenting a few challenges for some students on campus.

“When I come back it’s just like your brain is moving at 100 % again, it’s hard adjusting to the change of pace,” said Ryan Hopson, a sophomore at MSU.

“It’s kind of tough you know, I got all 8 A.M.’s this semester, so just waking up after spending three weeks staying in bed until 12, and waking up at six o’clock again to get to class, it’s a little difficult but I’m adjusting as the weeks pass on,” said Mayukh Datta, who’s in his second year at MSU.

As the weeks pass on and the school year progresses, students will be forced to develop a routine to help them knock off the holiday rust.

However, finding that routine isn’t always easy.

“It hasn’t been super hard to get back into getting up and going to class, but it definitely is hard to get back into studying instead of doing what you want in your free time,” Campbell expressed.

For some students, their routine will cause them to take a break from looking at their phone and TV the screens and start hitting the books.

“Honestly, just focusing on one thing at a time,” Hopson explained. “I have an app, a to-do list app, and I just focus on one thing, getting that done, then I will focus on more harder tests after that, then I’ll get back into the swing of things.”

“Instead of watching Netflix or something before I go to bed, just turn off the TV and set aside some time specifically for studying,” said Campbell.

“Going to bed early for sure, and then just planning my day and making sure that I am keeping a planner, going to class, and just eating healthy so I can get to bed on time,” said Datta.

Research shows that having a set bedtime and sticking to it, and having an organized planner of all these things you need to do, are two critical components to help students get back in the swing of things as the new semester begins.
