Summer Screeches to a Halt Next Weekend

TONIGHT: Any showers remaining will fizzle out shortly after sunset.  Temperatures will fall into the upper 60s overnight with calm winds and mostly clear skies.  Any places that can fall into the mid 60s could see some patchy AM fog again.

MONDAY – WEDNESDAY: Look for temperatures to remain in the upper 80s and low 90s.  We’ll expect it to stay dry, but it’s possible that one or two showers could pop up, with areas closer to the Delta and I-20/Meridian/Jackson having the best chance for a rogue sprinkle.  It will stay muggy as summer holds on.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: A weak cold front will push through.  While it won’t give us much if any chance for showers or storms, it will bring in some drier air behind it in time for Thursday/Friday.

THURSDAY – FRIDAY: Look for highs in the mid 80s with lows down into the 60s.  It will feel much more comfortable as a north wind will help to pull in drier air.  By Friday Afternoon, a second cold front will approach the area reinforcing even more cooler and drier air into the weekend.

NEXT WEEKEND: You’ll like the way next weekend looks.  Look for upper 70s to low 80s, but it could be even cooler than that.  As we get closer, we’ll fine-tune those numbers and adjust them.  All in all, it will be the first true weekend of fall, so have your bonfire and hayride plans ready!  The bad news is that it looks like this fall cooldown won’t hold on for long.

HURRICANE MARIA: As of Sunday Night, Hurricane Maria was a category 2 storm moving north at 9mph.  Tropical Storm watches have been posted on the North Carolina coastline including the outer banks as it could come close enough to bring high winds and heavy rain to those areas.  As far as a catastrophic landfall, that does not look immediately likely, though it is still worth monitoring.
