Sweet potato processor sold, industry giants come together

CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Two of the major players in the Sweet potato industry are combining.

Alexander farms of Vardaman is buying Penick Produce.

The deal between the two companies is now final and will keep Penick under local control.

The deal gives Alexander access to the process grade potato market.

A process grade potato are those not eligible for sale as fresh but can be stored and used in a variety of other potato based products.

The deal includes the processing and storage operations as well as a sizable land sale.

No purchase price is being released.
