Task Force Goes To Bat For Roads

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – A task force has begun meetings and in July at the state capitol in Jackson it will make recommendations to the legislature on ways of getting additional monies to fund the state’s transportation system.

During Thursday’s meeting with Columbus Exchange Club members, Northern District Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert spoke of the large amounts of revenue needed to support Mississippi’s highway system. Tagert applauded the efforts of the task force created by the state senate.

“Building roads cost a tremendous amount of money. And we are certainly supportive of any group that’s trying to help us identify our needs and ways in order to make the most of our resources,” said Mike Tagert, Northern District Transportation Commissioner.

A Task force is expected to meet again the second week in July.
