Teacher Appreciation Week

HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) – Being a teacher takes an enormous amount of dedication, and that is why this week is dedicated to teachers.

Every year, Teacher Appreciation Week is set aside for students and parents to honor educators.

Houston Middle School educator, Russell Thomas is retiring after 25 years in education.

He’s worn many hats over the years, including being a principal, coach, and special education director.

The seasoned educator has some advice for new teachers.

“Encourage each other because there’s a lot of backlash a lot of times, with you know, between parents and politicians, don’t we know, and things like that, and if you know that this is for you, just keep your head down and stick with it,” Thomas explained, “You’ve got to really love the kids, understand where they’re coming from, and try to reach them the best you can.”

Congrats on retirement and Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to all teachers!
