Teen sentenced in 2017 shooting

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)- A teenager who is paralyzed is sentenced to 5 years in prison in the shooting death of his friend.

Keithan Griffin, 17, plead guilty last week to Culpable Negligence Manslaughter. He was sentenced Wednesday.

Daiquarrias Pounds, 19, was killed in the May 2017 shooting.

Griffin’s attorney says the shooting was accidental and “grossly negligent.”

He says the two were pretending to dodge bullets the the gun went off.

Prosecutors reccommended the teen spend ten years behind bars, however the judge cut that in half because Pounds’ family still care for Griffin.

Griffin was paralyzed in a separate shooting six months before Pounds was killed.
