The Mississippi Highway Patrol is looking for new troopers

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The Mississippi Highway Patrol is looking for new state troopers.

The application process is officially underway.

MHP is looking for men and women who are interested in serving the Magnolia State.

There’s currently a need for more state troopers on the highways for the public’s safety.

The state department is allotted about 650 state troopers, but the current number is a lot lower than that.

“We are so low in numbers right now. We actually have 525 troopers that are employed with us, but right now, we also have 150 roughly that can retire at this time, so that kind of puts us in a bad situation,” says MHP Troop G Public Affairs Sgt. Derrick Beckom.

The deadline for applications is May 31st.

If you’re interested in applying, stop by your local MHP Patrol Station and driver’s license office and/or the MHP website to download an application.
