Video: Thompson Win Doesn’t Guarantee Spot On Bench

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The voters say they still want Ricky Thompson to be a Lee County Justice Court Judge but the State Supreme Court will have the final say.

The State Supreme Court in June ordered Thompson removed from office for what the Commission of Judicial Performance called willful misconduct.

Among their claims are that Thompson promoted a particular bonding company and violated peoples rights to an attorney. Thompson is appealing that ruling which made him eligible to seek re-election.

Thompson was able to sweep to victory on the first ballot over in a field of five candidates.  If the Supreme Court denies Thompson’s request for a rehearing, he will immediately be removed from office and Tuesday’s win will be voided.  No time frame on when the Supreme Court will decide Thompson’s appeal has been set
