MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Sheriff Cantrell said negotiation played a big role in Ellen Huebner surrendering on Monday.
Mississippi Bureau of Investigation agents and the Sheriff’s department carried out those talks.
Once investigators were able to get in contact with her, the goal was to maintain that contact.
Law enforcement said the goal is to try to convince suspects on the run to not prolong the situation.
“It can be challenging, you know, to convince that person to go ahead and turn themselves in, you know, because they are scared, I guess, and not sure what’s going to happen at that point,” said MHP Troop G Public Affairs Officer, Sgt. Derrick Beckom.
Investigators are hoping to gather more answers when they question Huebner.
