STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — It’s starting to feel more like winter in North Mississippi, and the state department of transportation wants drivers to be prepared.

MDOT stopped by the Mississippi State campus Wednesday to talk to students about driving safely this time of year.

It’s part of the transportation department’s winter weather college tour.

Officials say the key to being safe on the road is being prepared.

Have your vehicle ready for winter conditions, and keep an emergency kit handy.

“Through the department of transportation, we have a lot of publications that are available for all kinds of drivers in Mississippi, to inform them and educate them about how to drive safely, because the most important tool you have in your vehicle is yourself,” said Courtney Harris, MDOT community relations.

MDOT will continue its tour at Delta State, Thursday, and Ole Miss and Jackson State next week.
