JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A federal lawsuit seeking voter records has been refiled in Mississippi’s southern district federal court.
Texas group True the Vote and 22 Mississippi residents sued Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, the state Republican Party and nine county election commissions Wednesday in Jackson.
The plaintiffs say federal law requires authorities to release voting rolls and poll books in the race between Chris McDaniel and Thad Cochran without erasing voters’ personal information. Mississippi authorities say it’s proper to remove birth dates and make requesters pay for removal.
The group first sued in Oxford, dropping its suit Tuesday after U.S. District Judge Mike Mills ordered plaintiffs to explain why their suit shouldn’t move to Jackson.
Hosemann and state Republicans say they don’t have the records and should be removed from court action.

JACKSON, MS – (PRESS RELEASE) U.S. Senator Thad Cochran’s campaign released the following statement and updated county-by-county review numbers regarding the June 24 run-off election:

“The review of 61 of the 82 counties is now complete and the results continue to show extremely low numbers of questionable votes,” said campaign spokesman Jordan Russell. “As we noted in earlier updates, these are simply votes, including absentee and affidavit ballots, that are questioned, it does not mean they are definitively improperly cast votes. Because of secret ballot, of course, there is no way to determine for which candidate these votes were cast.”

“We have now moved into the third week of Chris McDaniel continuing to assert that a monstrous fraud was committed yet he has supplied zero evidence for these allegations. It is extraordinarily irresponsible for an elected official to make such claims without providing proof. Our campaign continues to update our information in order to provide specifics. We also continue to urge the media to demand the same level of specificity from the McDaniel campaign and to question their assertions of ‘irregularities’ while refusing to define what that means.”
