Video: Tupelo Police Department’s ‘Freedom Shrine’

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A collection of historic document replicas that help tell the story of the nation’s history will soon be on display at the new Tupelo Police headquarters.

The Tupelo Exchange Club presented a “Freedom Shrine” to the department.  The “Freedom Shrine” is a collection of replicas of documents such as “The Declaration of Independence,”  the Constitution, the Gettysburg address and many others.

It is a gift by the Exchange Club that will be on permanent display at the new TPD headquarters, as a reminder about the principles that have helped guide the nation’s leaders.

“We just wanted to give back to our guys that stand up for us, we stand behind them and they go out and put their lives on the line all the time, men and women in blue,” said Stephanie Collier, of the Tupelo Exchange Club.

“These are historical documents, that we live by, and we’re ruled by and so I think it’s fitting and proper that these documents, we find a place here for them,” said Tupelo Police Chief Bart Aguirre.

Freedom Shrines are also on display at schools , libraries and municipal buildings throughout the area and the nation.
