Tupelo Remembering Loved Ones At Christmas Time

TUPELO, MISS (WCBI) – A local church hosts a memorial to honor loved ones who’ve died.

The Tupelo chapter of Compassionate Friends puts on a candle light vigil  every year.

The service held at anchor church is part of a worldwide event.

On the second Sunday in December, people gather around the world to light a candle.

Those who attend are invited to bring a framed photo of the deceased family member.

Each participant is welcome to light a candle in memory of their loved one, and time for families to share their loved one’s story.

“To let them know they are not alone in spite of this that they are able to be surrounded by others that understand their feelings and what they are going through because a lot of times lets face it a lot of time many people say they understand but they don’t unless they have actually been through it,” said organizer Elizabeth Stamper.

This is Tupelo’s 10th annual candle lighting memorial.
Anchor church also host a support group for grieving family members that meets each month.
