Tupelo Tax Receipts See Major Jump

City of Tupelo sales tax receipts increased 23.36 percent from June of fiscal 2015, according to
figures released today by Tupelo Chief Financial Officer Kim Hanna, who confirmed this is the
highest percentage since Fiscal Year 2016 began Oct. 1, 2015.

Revenue increased $325,072 from $1,391,519.97 in June 2015 to $1,716,592.39 or 23.36
percent. For the current Fiscal year, sales tax receipts are up 8.07 percent or $1,125,136 from
fiscal 2015, which ended Sept. 30, 2015.
“We are in another great chapter of the proud Tupelo Story and excited that the local economy
continues to thrive,” said Mayor Jason Shelton. “As a city, we will continue our total team effort
to enhance our local quality of life opportunities and revitalization efforts, which are
interconnected to our steadfast commitment to economic development.
“We remain cautiously optimistic, that even more economic development and quality of life
opportunities will be forthcoming in the near future and these robust sales tax numbers will
greatly benefit the continued growth of our All-America city,” he added.
State settlements of sales tax receipts run two months behind, meaning these figures result from
April collections.
