Tupelo Water and Light Collections warns about phone scam

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Tupelo Water and Light Collections is warning customers about a potential phone scam targeting local business owners.

The utility company says they have received several complaints of a caller threatening to turn a business’ utility meter off, unless payment is given over the phone with a credit card.

Director of Tupelo Water and Light, Johnny Timmons, says utility bill payments are never collected over the phone.

Payment of utility bills may be made by mail, online at www.tupeloms.gov, or in person at the collections office, 333 Court Street. Office hours are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
