Tupelo Water and Light Addresses Outage Problem

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Officials at Tupelo’s electric department believe they now know the source of recent power outages.

Customers of Tupelo Water and Light experienced the third power outage in the past sixty days Sunday night.

Light and water department general manager Johnny Timmons believes wildlife, specifically raccoons, have been getting into a major substation that supplies power to a large number of customers.

The department will install a structure guard. It’s a barrier to keep the animals out of that area.

Crews were able to get the power back on Sunday within an hour.
