Turkey And Tailgating: Families Give Thanks Under Tent

OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) – Turkey and tailgating! That may seem like an unusual combination, but as the Egg Bowl Game happened on Thanksgiving again this year, a lot of local families gave thanks under a tent.

From turkey to dressing and cranberry sauce, it’s everything you’d typically find on a thanksgiving table.

Except Whitney Burns’ table is under a tent.

“It’s a family affair. there are five families represented here today,” Burns said.

Her family members aren’t the only ones breaking with tradition.

89-year-old Beatrice Polston, better known as “Granny B,” was convinced to take this year off, let someone else do the cooking, and travel from North Carolina to tailgate with her great-grandaughter, who is an Ole Miss Senior.

“Yeah, I’m happy to come. enjoyed it very much,” Polston said.

After all the family is doing what they’d do on any Thanksgiving, they’re just doing it in The Grove this year.

And that makes for memories that everyone says they won’t forget, regardless of who wins the game.

“The weather is perfect, the trees our beautiful and we’re just so thankful and blessed to be here,” Burns said.
