VIDEO: Two ICC Sluggers Join Championship Squad

FULTON, Miss. (WCBI) — Two Itawamba Community College sophomore softballers are transferring to a national champion squad.

Mathiston native Mamie Hollenhead and Pontotoc native Alex Brown are heading to the University of North Alabama to continue their softball careers.

The two had stellar freshman campaigns, each earning NFCA All-American honors, Hollenhead being named to second-team, Brown being named first-team.

“….UNA is getting two outstanding young ladies, both in the classroom and on the field”, said ICC head coach Andy Kirk.

“Coach [Ashley] Cozart just won a national championship so that really speaks volumes for our program to have a national championship program coming to get our players after next year.”

“When I went to my visit, it felt like home kind of like ICC did when I came over here”, explained Brown, “…their campus is just beautiful and they just won a national championship so I wanted to be a part of a team like that.”

Hollenhead felt the same homely sentiment as Brown about the University of North Alabama, but also added, “…they have two live lions on campus so that’s pretty cool too” with a laugh.

The Division II University of North Alabama is coming off a record season, going 60-7 on their way to a national championship.
