Two women face embezzlement charges in Lowndes County

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI, CPD)- Two Columbus women are behind bars facing embezzlement charges in separate cases.

Tonya Danyel Holmes, 42, is being charged by Columbus Police after they said she cashed more than one check that was not made out to her.

In an unrelated incident, Lauren Elizabeth Duke, 37, was arrested and charged with “embezzlement under contract”.

Police say Duke rented a couch valued at $1,044 and a platform bed valued at $645.

Duke was arrested after she failed to make payments per the contract with a local furniture rental business.

Police are not identifying the victims involved in either case.

Both women were taken to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
