COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — It means fall is just around the corner. The fair is in town. The Columbus Fair and Livestock show opened Tuesday with carnival rides, foods, and games on the midway. If you’ve ever flipped a ring on a milk jug, you know it’s tougher than it looks, but there are prizes to be won. WCBI’S Jonathan Flippo reports on this family event where you can try your luck.

What are the odds? Games of chance are one of the biggest draws at popular fairs like the Columbus Fair and Livestock Show.

“We’ve got all different games out here that people can enjoy all the way from the little ones to the older ones and the chances and odds are really good and you know we want you to walk away with a souvenir,” said Ultimate Fair Promoter Tommy Pearson.

Some people may be a little too good. Just weeks ago former Arizona Wildcat and NBA basketball athlete Gilbert Arenas was banned from playing basketball carnival games in Southern California and winning multiple prizes.

Ultimate fair promoter Tommy Pearson and Swine Master of the Racing Pig Show Charlie Boger both say that’s never happened to them.

“I’ve heard of it on some of the shows that I’ve been on, but that would be like you know a race car driver going to a go cart track or something or rather him being a professional race car driver. They just let him get by with it for so long, but no that’s not the normal. Sometimes they do it at least let them win one game or one prize a game a week or something like that,” said Racing Pig Show Swine Master Charlie Boger.

I mean people do win and they win a lot of prizes, but as far as actually somebody killing them I mean I’ve never seen that, but I’ve seen them walk out with armfuls of prizes,” said Pearson.

The chances of winning a prize are very good and odds of having a good time even better.
