Update: 3 Injured In Starkville Apartment Fire

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-  Three people were injured in an early Friday morning apartment fire in Starkville.

Firefighters responded to the call about 12:02 AM.

Flames engulfed a floor in the O building at Avalon Apartments, just off Highway 25.

Fire Chief Charles Yarbrough tells WCBI one person sustained burns to their back and two other people were injured after jumping off a second story balcony.

Four trucks responded to the scene and additional personnel were called in to contain the fire to the one building.

The American Red Cross and OSERVES are assisting the fire victims, who lost virtually everything.

ARC is assisting eight people. A spokesperson says 22 were impacted by the blaze.

There’s no word yet on what caused the fire.

Mississippi State University Chief Communications Officer Sid Salter says the school has identified three students that lived at the apartment building that caught fire, but there are most likely as many as 13.

MSU has offered living assistance for on-campus housing and academic assistance for the students impacted.
