COLUMBUS, Miss. (Press Release) – On August 21st, at approximately 1:36 p.m., an Agent with the Columbus Police Department Narcotic Unit stopped Bruce Kendall Owings on 12th Street North and Park Circle. Owings had outstanding warrants traffic offenses and fled in his 2004 Ford Ranger after learning he was being arrested. Owings narrowly missed the arresting officer and refused to yield to blue lights and siren as Columbus Police Officers tried to stop him. Owings led the officers through numerous city streets and ended up on Nash Road. While on Nash Road, Owings circled behind a residence and attempted to reverse his direction. Owings came back on the roadway and crashed his Ford Ranger head-on into a Columbus Police Investigator who was assisting with trying to stop Owings. Both the Officer and Owings were transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital for treatment. Both were released the same day and the officer is recovering at home. He is expected to return to work tomorrow.

Suspected Cocaine was found in Owings vehicle which is believed to be the reason for his reckless behavior.

Bruce Kendall Owings (53yoa) is being charged with: (2) Counts of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Felony Failure to Stop When Officer Signals, and Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cocaine)
