UPDATE – DPS releases content of signs found at Capitol

JACKSON (WCBI) More information is coming out about the nooses and signs found early Monday morning at the State Capitol.

The Department of Public Safety now says several people are responsible for putting nooses in the trees and placing several hand made signs near the entrance.  DPS is releasing pictures of the signs which all reference the history of hangings and lynchings in the state.   The release does not contain any pictures of the suspects taken from surveillance cameras but does say it plans to make more information public which could help identify the people who placed the items.

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety is asking anyone who may have seen something in that area this morning or may have information on the identities of the people responsible, please contact the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation at 601-933-2652 or Central Mississippi CrimeStoppers at 601-355-TIPS.

The state’s history concerning hangings has come to the forefront after Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith was recorded saying she would attend a public hanging if a life long friend asked her to attend.
