UPDATE – Investigation Into Child Shooting Death Continues

COLUMBUS – (WCBI) – Columbus Police investigators and Crime Scene officers are gathering evidence into the afternoon shooting death of a 12 year old child.

 

The child died after he was shot inside a Florence Street home.   Early indications are the shooting is accidental but currently the case is being termed as a death investigation.   Police say the child was visiting the residence where the shooting took place and that several other children were also on the scene. They are all meeting with Columbus Police to provide information on what exactly happened.

Officers have recovered an AR-15 weapon from the home but are not saying if that is the weapon involved in the shooting.

The identity of the child is known but the name is not being made public at this time.  WCBI will continue to monitor this story through the evening.
