LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) –  Names have still not been released in the case relating to the Alabama family that fell in the river near the Lawrence Bridge in Caledonia, but Coronor Greg Merchant said the 50-year-old father passed away last night around midnight at Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle.

Witnesses at the bridge say the 26-year-old son got caught in the swift moving current near the ramp.

When his father jumped in to save him, they were both taken under.

The men were both rescued by onlookers who came to their aid.
