UPDATE: Setting The Record Straight On West Point Fire

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – West Point Police Chief Avery Cook tells WCBI News the investigation into the deadly Thanksgiving fire is NOT YET classified as a homicide.

Earlier today, November 29, Cook spoke with WCBI about the death of 62 year old William Brownlee.

Brownlee died inside a home on Washington street on Thanksgiving evening.

Cooks repeated his statement, that the body is in Pearl for an autopsy. He says investigators are waiting on those results before proceeding.

“Right now it has been reported that we are treating this as a homicide. We haven’t reached that point as of yet. We still have some things to tie up. Then, we will proceed from there.” says Chief Avery Cook.

The West Point Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal are also part of the investigation.
